For 15 years, I held the hands of people at their most vulnerable moments in the healthcare industry, serving as a calming light for those feeling anxious, uncertain, and scared. I cherished this role deeply. However, in 2018, I made the difficult decision to leave my bedside post, finish a university degree, and prioritize my own well-being. Years of shift work and witnessing human pain had taken a toll on my mental and emotional health, leaving my nervous system dysregulated and my heart and mind incoherent.
The years that followed brought their challenges: healing from burnout, going through a divorce, and becoming a single parent. Navigating this new world mostly alone was scary and confronting. My life had once been predictable, comfortable, and safe, but now I had to rely on the tools available to help me.
I started the Project InBetween podcast to reconnect with my roots, share stories of healing beyond the bedside, and showcase the experiences I had heard in the clinical environment. Embracing my self-healing practices—writing, Reiki, meditation, breathwork, and connecting with myself—became my way of healing. Slowly, I walked myself back home, guided by a small light within, a silent whisper that showed me one stepping stone at a time.
Embracing the journey to wholeness, even when we are taught to serve the outside world before ourselves, is a journey worth taking.
